I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember, and apart from art classes at school I consider myself self-taught.
Colour and form are hugely important to me.
My wife Bridget comes from Dublin, and the frequent trips to Ireland, with exposure to Celtic art and mythology have acted as an inspiration. We have three grown-up children, and I work as a Chartered Physiotherapist.
Art hss fitted in around home and work life.
Over the last 10 years I have taken my painting more seriously, and have put extra effort into learning to paint in watercolours (which I consider to be the most
difficult of mediums).
Recently, encouraged by a friend I have also
re-engaged with oils.
Inspiration and themes.
My current paintings fall into three categories, The Natural world, Spiritual Symbolism, and Abstract landscapes.
I am fascinated by the concept of a Vortex, and am drawn to those natural forms and events that include this phenomenon, such as the structure of shells, whirlpools, waves and the cosmos.
Artists that have influenced me include Graham Sutherland, Gustav Klimpt, Picasso, Georgia O'Keefe, Dharmachari Aloka, and many anonymous Tibetan Thankha painters.
For over 20 years I have practiced meditation and studied
Buddhism, and in 2001 was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order, and given the Buddhist name of 'Muditavajra' which translates as "Joyful thunderbolt".
